A borewell point is a hole that’s drilled deep into the ground to reach water stored in underground layers called aquifers.

In Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka, a bull named Sharanya found over 200 borewell points, initially sparking controversy. At first, people were sceptical about Sharanya’s abilities, especially followers of Lord Shaneshwara Swami of Arsikere. But caretaker Anand changed perceptions and Sharanya is now renowned for locating underground water sources accurately.

Before drilling a borewell, Sharanya surveys the land. It’s believed that wherever Sharanya suspects dirt, there’s water underneath. And every time Sharanya locates a spot, water is found there without fail. Anand, who looks after Sharanya, is a skilled farmer and hasn’t asked for money from anyone. This ability of the bull has amazed many.

What is Borewell Point and Its Types?

A borewell point is a hole that’s drilled deep into the ground to reach water stored in underground layers called aquifers. Generally, there are two main kinds: dug wells and tube wells. Dug wells are made by digging with hands, going down to shallower levels. On the other hand, tube wells are created by drilling deep holes with machines. Tube wells are often preferred because they can reach deeper aquifers where more water is found.

Some other common methods to find a borewell point:

  1. Very Low Frequency (VLF) Sounding Method
  2. Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) Test
  3. Use of Dowsing Rod, Coconut, or “Y” Shaped Stick
  4. Brunton Transit
  5. Identification of Stations with High Gravitational or Electromagnetic Force

Benefits of Borewell Points:

Steady Water Supply: Borewells offer a reliable water source that remains consistent, even during dry spells, which makes them perfect for watering crops and household needs.

Economical Option: Over the long term, borewells prove to be a cost-efficient water source, particularly in regions where alternative sources are limited or pricey.

Climate Resilience: Borewells are less affected by weather changes such as droughts, guaranteeing a dependable water supply even in challenging conditions.
