'Rewarding Players Who Want to Play Tough Cricket': Manjrekar and Ex-IND Players All Praise for BCCI's Annual Contract List – News18

Former Indian cricketers shared their reaction to the recent announcement made by the BCCI on the central contracts for the 2023-24 season which included some suprising omissions and the emphasis on domestic cricket.

In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the central contract list for the 2023-24 season. Notably, the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan has been the talk of the town following the announcement and it has garnered reactions from some important people from the cricketing fraternity.

The former Indian batter, Sanjay Manjrekar sees the new announcement as a good move. He praised the BCCI for the the move and sees it as ‘rewarding players who want to play the tough cricket and for only one reason… to face the acid test.’

Former Indian wicket-keeper batter, Deep Dasgupta also lauded the move made by the BCCI and also saw the move to provide fast-bowling contracts as a good move.

Ex-Indian pacer, Irfan Pathan had a cryptic reaction to the contract announcement. It could be a reaction to Iyer and Kishan’s exclusion or the fast-bowling contracts being handed out as well.

The former India cricketer and coach, Ravi Shastri also lauded praise for the massive move made by the BCCI to emphasise the longer format and the domestic circuit.

Grade A+ (Four Players): Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.

Grade A (Six Players): R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.

Grade B (Five Players): Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Grade C (15 Players): Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
