Royal Challengers Bangalore in WPL-2 playoffs: Mumbai Indians defeated by 7 wickets, UP-Gujarat out; Alice Perry's double performance

Royal Challengers Bangalore has made it to the playoffs of Season 2 of the Women's Premier League. The team defeated defending champion Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in their last league match. With the victory of Bengaluru, the teams of UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants are out of the race for the playoffs.

Bengaluru won the toss and decided to bowl at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Coming to bat first, Mumbai team was all out for 113 runs in 19 overs. In reply, Bengaluru won by scoring 115 runs for 3 wickets in 15 overs and entered the playoffs. Ellyse Perry was the player of the match. He scored unbeaten 40 runs and took 6 wickets.

Bengaluru openers out early
Bengaluru, which set out to chase the target of 114 runs, did not have a special start. The team lost the wickets of the openers on the score of 25 runs. Sophie Molyneux was out after scoring 9 runs and captain Smriti Mandhana was out after scoring 11 runs.

After the openers were out, Ellis Perry (40 runs) took over the innings and led the team to victory. Perry made an unbroken partnership of 76 runs on 53 balls with Richa Ghosh (36* runs). Mumbai's Shabnim Ismail, Haley Mathews and Natalie Seaver-Brunt got one wicket each.

Mumbai's middle and lower order flopped
Hayley Mathews (26 runs) and Sajeevan Sajna (30 runs) came out to bat first and gave a great start to Mumbai Indians. At one time the team's score was 60/1 in 8 overs. After that wickets started falling and none of the subsequent batsmen could hold on and play. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur could not even open an account.
