Following the announcement of the general election schedule by the Election Commission of India (ECI), West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose introduced an initiative called ‘Log Sabha’. Under this initiative, citizens can communicate with the Governor by emailing logsabha.rajbhavankolkata@gmail.com.
Sources told News18 that the Governor plans to visit election areas phase-wise and is in touch with the Election Commission.
Sandeep Rajput, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the West Bengal Governor, will serve as the nodal officer of the ‘Log Sabha’.
On Saturday, the West Bengal Governor visited a school in Howrah, which functions as a conventional polling booth. During the visit, the Governor traveled in a Toto, interacting with locals along the route.
Bose highlighted that his priority during this election would be to combat violence and corruption, emphasising that the people of the state deserve peace and transparency.
“This election, I will be on the road from 6 am. I will not tolerate any violence. Everything will be monitored,” he stated.
Last June, West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose launched a “peace room” for people to register complaints related to pre-panchayat poll violence in the state. Over 350 complaints have been filed through the portal so far.
In February, after violence erupted in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal Governor announced that Raj Bhavan’s doors are open to women from troubled Sandeshkhali who feel unsafe in their homes. Bose assured these women that they could seek refuge in Raj Bhavan, where they would receive shelter, food, and security.
However, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) expressed displeasure with the Governor’s proactive stance.
TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “The Governor should not involve himself in all this. He should ensure that Central forces do not behave like BJP cadres.”
Defending Bose, West Bengal State Chief Sukanta Majumdar asserted, “The Governor has witnessed bloodshed in Bengal, which is why he has taken such decisions. We should welcome this.”
