Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer has reached Kolkata and has joined the team. Iyer was welcomed at the hotel on his arrival in Kolkata.
KKR shared pictures of Shreyas Iyer on social media on Saturday. He wrote in the caption, Kolkata, the time has come. Earlier, a video of Iyer had gone viral. This video was from Mumbai airport, where Iyer's parents had come to drop him to the airport. After this Iyer flew to Kolkata.
Iyer declared captain by KKR
Shreyas Iyer will be the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and Nitish Rana, who led the team last season, will be the vice captain. KKR CEO Venky Mysore has announced Iyer's return. He made Nitish the vice-captain.
Here Shreyas Iyer said- 'Last season we faced many challenges, which also included my absence due to injury. Nitish has not only done a wonderful job in replacing me with his commendable leadership. Making Nitish the vice captain will strengthen the leadership of the team.
Did not field on the last day in Ranji final
Iyer did not field for Mumbai in the second innings of Vidarbha on the 5th day of the Ranji final. After this, there were apprehensions that he might be out of the initial matches of IPL.
Played an inning of 95 runs in the final
Shreyas Iyer played an inning of 95 runs on 111 balls in the second innings against Vidarbha in the Ranji final. However, he was able to score only 7 runs in the first innings.
Was out of IPL last season
Shreyas Iyer was out of the entire IPL season last year. In fact, at the beginning of last year, he got injured in the last match of the Test series against Australia. For this reason, KKR made Nitish Rana the captain. He was also not available for the final of the World Test Championship to be held in England on June 7 last year.
