Holi is being played by tearing clothes in the square of Azamgarh, clothes thrown on electric wires are giving testimony.

Holi is very famous by tearing the cloth of Chowk located in Old Kotwali of Azamgarh district. The tradition of tearing this cloth for Holi has been going on for the last 40 years. On the occasion of Holi festival, this Holi starts from 6 in the morning and continues till 2 in the afternoon. During this time, whoever passes by has his clothes torn and is bathed with water and colours. After this the clothes worn by that person are torn. This is the reason why this Holi is called cloth tearing Holi.

This cloth tearing Holi started from the old Kotwali, now in the district
