Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has given show cause notice to Hanuma Vihari after one month. The former India batsman had spoken about political interference in the association to remove him from the post of Andhra captain a month ago.
Vihari has not yet responded to the notice, which was given after the ACA meeting a few days ago. Yes, we have sent them a show cause notice and we are waiting for their reply, an ACA official told PTI. The association does not want to prolong this issue.
Andhra had to face defeat by 4 runs against Madhya Pradesh in the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season. After which Vihari made a social media post. In this he had talked about leaving the captaincy under pressure from the association.
Vihari was removed from captaincy after the first match
Vihari started the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season as Andhra captain but stepped down after the first match against last year's runners-up Bengal. Ricky Bhui led the team in the remaining matches of the season and is now the most successful batsman in the current season with 902 runs.
Vihari had at that time blamed personal reasons for leaving the captaincy. But, the right-handed batsman later said in an Instagram post that the association had asked him to resign.
Vihari said, I was the captain in the first match against Bengal. During that match I shouted at the 17th player and he complained to his father (leader), in turn his father asked the association to take action against me.
He said, we chased 410 runs against Bengal, who made it to the final last year, but through no fault of mine I was asked to resign from the captaincy.
Vihari played 16 tests for India
Hanuma Vihari has played a total of 16 tests for India. He scored 839 runs. In this, one of his centuries came against West Indies in 2019. His unbeaten inning of 23 runs in 161 balls in Sydney also helped win the match against Australia.
