Punjab Kings needed 41 to win from the last over when Liam Livingstone struck a short delivery towards midwicket but the ball hit the Spidercam resulting in a dead ball.
With the contest all but out of their sight, Punjab Kings were still hopeful of a miracle against Lucknow Super Giants in their chase of 200 in an IPL 2024 match on Saturday night. PBKS needed 41 to win off six deliveries and unless Naveen-ul-Haq, who was tasked to defend the runs, had a nightmare delivering an exceptionally wayward over, the match looked done and dusted.
Liam Livingstone, known for his massive sixes, wasn’t giving up as he blasted two sixes and a four off the first three legal deliveries off the over of Naveen.
However, Livingstone was left frustrated after Naveen fired in the first delivery of the over. It was a short one which the PBKS batter pulled with some power towards midwicket region but the ball ended up hitting the Spidercam before rolling feebly towards a fielder.
Livingstone couldn’t believe it and let his frustration known. It was declared a dead ball before Naveen went for another short ball which was declared wide.
The first legal delivery of the over was full around leg and a charged-up Livingstone swung it over deep square leg region for a biggie before belting the next over extra cover for four and launching the third over the bowler’s head for a six. The final three deliveries though yielded just two runs for PBKS as they finished at 178/5.
Playing their first match of IPL 2024 at home, LSG opted to bat first with Nicholas Pooran coming out for the toss as regular skipper KL Rahul was played as an Impact Player to keep him fresh considering this is his first competition since he picked up a quadriceps injury.

Rahul was out for 15 off 9 but his opening partner Quinton de Kock scored a fine half-century before blistering innings from Krunal Pandya (43* off 22) and Pooran (42 off 21) propelled them to a big total of 199/8.
LSG debutant Mayank Yadav was sensational as he picked up 3/28 from four overs to help his team record a 21-run win.
