Despite the defeat, fans at the stadium and across the nation were thrilled by former CSK skipper Dhoni’s swashbuckling 37-run innings off just 16 deliveries towards the end of the chase.

Delhi Capitals registered their first win in the 2024 season of the IPL with a 20-run win over defending champion Chennai Super Kings at the Dr Y.S.Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

DC posted a total of 191 for the loss of 5 wickets thanks to half-centuries from David Warner and skipper Rishabh Pant, before limiting CSK to 171/6 in 20 overs.

Despite the defeat, fans at the stadium and across the nation were thrilled by former CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s swashbuckling innings towards the end of the chase.

Dhoni came in to bat with CSK reeling at 120/6 in 16.1 overs and went on to notch up 37 runs off just 16 deliveries to send the fans into a frenzy.

Dhoni started his innings with a boundary as he pulled a Mukesh Kumar delivery to the ropes to exact a raucous ovation from the crowd.

Delhi won the toss and opted to bat as the openers got the capital city side off to a flying start with Prithvi Shaw and Warner contributing with knocks of 43 and 52 respectively.

Chennai pacer Mustafizur Rahman gave his side the breakthrough with the scalp of Warner, as Pant came in to play a captain’s knock with his 53 run-innings.

CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scalped Shaw, before Mitchell Marsh was castled by Matheesha Pathirana.

The Sri Lankan seamer went on to clean out Tristan Stubbs in the very same over before he completed his three-wicket haul with the dismissal of Pant.

Axar Patel and Abhishek Porel finished the innings unbeaten 7 and 9 to bring up DC’s score of 191.

Chennai’s openers fell cheaply on the day before Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell came up with knocks of 45 and 34 before falling to Mukesh Kumar and Axar.

Mukesh got his three-fer as he scalped Shivam Dube and Sameer Rizvi for 18 and 0, before Dhoni and Jadeja ended unbeaten in the defeat.
