Madhabi Puri Buch was recently made the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). She created history by becoming the first woman to lead the organization. She graduated from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad in 1988. Prior to this she has worked as a Former Whole Time Member (WTM) of SEBI.

The only female student to come out of the placement process

In the year 1988, Madhabi, like any other ordinary student, submitted her name to the college administration. So that, they get a chance to appear before the placement cell. But later he withdrew his name. Madhabi was the only female student to come out of the placement process of this institute.

However, when Madhabi withdrew her name from IIM-A placement, the college wished her all the best and hoped that she would get the job of her choice in the future.

Madhavi attended the 59th convocation of IIMA on 30 March. Addressing the students, he said, 'I am not only a difficult boss, but also an impossible subordinate. Madhabi is a graduate from Stephens College.

Madhabi Puri Buch became the first woman chairperson of India's market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) with effect from March 1, 2022. He replaced Ajay Tyagi, whose tenure of five years had ended.

Madhabi has graduated in Maths from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi. After this he obtained MBA degree from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. After graduating from IIM-A, Madhavi started working as a social worker with Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN).

Later, she joined ICICI Bank as a Finance Analyst and worked there from 1989 to 1992. After this, from 1993 to 1995, she held the post of lecturer at West Cheshire College, United Kingdom.

He also worked as a Market Research Consultant with ORG-MARG for one year. From 1997 to 2009, she held various roles in ICICI Bank and eventually became the Executive Director. He then served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ICICI Securities from 2009 to 2011.

For the next three years, he led the Singapore office of private equity firm Greater Pacific Capital. Worked as a consultant at the New Development Bank (NDB) in Shanghai in 2016.

Madhabi has worked closely with Ajay Tyagi during her tenure as a former Whole Time Member (WTM) of SEBI between April 05, 2017 and October 04, 2021.

SEBI was established on April 12, 1992

SEBI is a statutory body (a non-constitutional body established by the Parliament) established on April 12, 1992 in accordance with the provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992. The basic function of SEBI is to protect the interests of investors in securities and to promote and regulate the securities market. SEBI is headquartered in Mumbai as well as has regional offices in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi.
