Green scored 63 runs for RCB in 3 matches.
Former Australian player Shane Watson has raised questions about the role of players in RCB, which has lost three out of four matches in this IPL. On Dainik Bhaskar's question in the Geo Round Table event, Watson said that Cameron Green is not getting the right role in the team. He is a number-3 batsman, the team gave him a chance to bat at number-5. Green performs well with the new ball, he should be bowled in the powerplay.
Match winning ability in green- Watson
Shane Watson said, the most important thing is that Green should come at number-3. He used to bat at number three for Mumbai Indians and has excellent skills. But he is not a No. 5 batsman at all. If RCB wants to get the best out of him, then lock him at number three. He will definitely win some matches for the team throughout the tournament. You can't shift him just because he doesn't score runs in 2 matches.
The same has to be done with the ball. Green is a skilled newball pacer and can swing the ball both ways. He has good speed. I think the biggest challenge for RCB is to keep the confidence by giving them chances in the matches as often as possible. He should be allowed to bat at number three and be given the new ball in the powerplay. With this you can get the best from green.
It is too early to send Mayank Yadav for test
On the question of Mayank Yadav being included in the Indian Test team, Watson said, it is a very special thing to perform on the big stage against the best batsmen of the world and to dominate them.
He further said, you would love to see him playing Test cricket, but it is important to know how much load is on your body as a fast bowler, it is important to be able to make the body flexible for it. Mayank's body is not ready to bowl at a fast pace and 15-20 overs a day in a Test match on a flat wicket.
There are not many fast bowlers in the world who come and are able to bowl with the pace and control that Mayank has, so they need to utilize the talent and skill that the youngster has. So, putting pressure on him to play Test cricket right now, I think is not wise at all.
Hardik will have to stay away from the noise – Watson
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been treated badly by the fans in all the three matches so far. Watson advised him to block out external noise and focus on skills in pressure situations. He said, Hardik has done one thing very well throughout his career, that is to silence external critics. He can win the hearts of fans with his skills.
Watson further said, Green has previously done this for Mumbai Indians and also for Gujarat Titans. You silence your critics with your performance and they have got the platform to do so. If you do your best, you will automatically win the hearts of the fans.
