Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their third consecutive match at their home ground in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Monday, the team defeated Kolkata Knight Riders, who had won 3 consecutive matches. However, despite this result, KKR remains at number-2 and CSK at number-4 in the points table.
Today in the 17th season, a match will be played between 5th and 6th ranked teams Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The winning team here can reach the top-4 with 6 points.
CSK's Mustafizur Rahman achieved the Purple Cap by taking 2 wickets on Monday. There was no change in the Orange Cap leaderboard, RCB's Virat Kohli is still on top.
CSK increased by 2 points in the points table
CSK defeated KKR by 7 wickets at Chepauk Stadium on Monday. Batting first, Kolkata scored 137 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Chennai achieved the target in 17.4 overs at the loss of 3 wickets.
- Even after defeating KKR, CSK remains at number-4. Although the team now has 6 points from 3 wins in 5 matches, Chennai suffered 2 defeats against Delhi and Hyderabad. KKR and LSG also have 6 points each in the points table and both the teams are ahead of CSK due to better run rate.
- Despite the first defeat in the 17th season, KKR remains at number-2. However, the team's run rate definitely decreased. But due to winning the first 3 matches by a good margin, the team is in the top-2 with 6 points.
Hyderabad can also reach number-2
Today the 23rd match of the tournament will be played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in Mohali. SRH is at number 5 in the points table with 4 points after 2 wins and 2 losses in 4 matches. The run rate of the team is also positive.
Today, if SRH gets a big win against Punjab, then the team can reach number-2 with 6 points. If the team wins by a margin of 40 or more runs, the team will reach number-3 and if it wins by a margin of 30 to 39 runs, the team will reach number-4. If it wins by less than this margin, the team will remain at number 5. If it loses, SRH may also slip to 7th position.
Punjab also has a chance to be in top-4
PBKS has also taken only 4 points after 2 wins and 2 losses in 4 matches. However, due to poor run rate the team is at sixth position. Today, if the team wins by a big margin then it will come in the top-4 with 6 points. But for this the team needs a win of 100 or more runs.
If PBKS wins by a margin of less than 100 runs, then the team will reach 5th position even with 6 points. Because the run rate of other teams present in the top-4 is much better than Punjab. If the match is lost, Punjab can also reach number 7.
Virat is on top in orange cap
There was no change in the Orange Cap leaderboard of the 17th season after the match on Monday. RCB's Virat Kohli is on top with 316 runs in 5 matches. Gujarat's Sai Sudarshan, who is at number two, is 125 runs behind him even after playing 5 games. Although today SRH's Heinrich Klaasen can come on top by scoring 140 runs, but due to his batting position being number-5, this is difficult to happen.
Mustafizur got purple cap
CSK's left arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman took 2 wickets on Monday. With this he took 9 wickets in 4 matches and became the top wicket taker of the season. Due to this, the purple cap reached him. He overtook RR's Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 8 wickets to his name. Today Kagiso Rabada of Punjab can reach the top by taking 4 wickets.
Clason is still the Sixer King
After the match on Monday, the Sixer King of the 17th season is still SRH's Heinrich Klaasen. He has 17 sixes in his name in 4 matches, however, KKR's Sunil Narine hit 2 sixes on Monday and reached number-5 with 14 sixes. Today Clason can further strengthen his lead. His team's Abhishek Sharma has 15 sixes, today he can also come on top.
Kohli is still the king of boundaries
The record of hitting most fours in the tournament is also in the name of Virat Kohli. He has hit 29 boundaries in 5 matches. CSK's Rituraj Gaikwad reached second position by hitting 9 fours on Monday. Now he has 20 fours in 5 matches. Today Punjab captain Shikhar Dhawan has a chance to come on top by hitting 14 fours.
