A total of 1,210 candidates will contest from 88 seats across 12 states and union territories, in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26. Out of 2,633 nominations filed, Kerala received the maximum at 500 from 20 constituencies and, after the final screening, 194 candidates are in the fray.

According to data from the Election Commission of India, after Kerala comes Karnataka where 491 nominations were filed from 14 seats and a total of 247 candidates are in the fray now.

“Minimum of 14 nominations were received from one parliamentary constituency in Tripura. Nanded parliamentary constituency in Maharashtra received a maximum of 92 nominations,” the EC said. In Nanded, 23 candidates will be in the fight after 46 nominations were withdrawn out of the 92 filed. In Tripura East, nine candidates will be in the fray.

The last date for filing nominations for the second phase for all 12 states and UTs was April 4. After the scrutiny of 2,633 nominations, 1,428 nominations were declared valid. Monday (April 7) was the last date for nomination withdrawal.

In Maharashtra, eight Lok Sabha seats will go to polls in the second phase, where 204 candidates are in the fray. In Rajasthan, 13 seats will be voting and 152 candidates will be trying their luck. A total of 47 candidates are in the fray for the three Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, while the Jammu seat will witness 22 candidates in the battle.

The Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat in Manipur will go to polls in both the first and second phases. A total of 15 assembly segments in Outer Manipur are voting on April 19, and 13 assemblies on April 26. There are four contesting candidates from the Outer Manipur seat, which was notified in the gazette on April 5.

Overall, for the first phase on April 19, there are 1,625 candidates contesting from 21 states and UTs with 1,491 males and 134 females. The general elections will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
