In Pics: Laapata Ladies Actress Chhaya Kadam Debuts At Cannes In Traditional Marathi Attire – News18

Chhaya Kadam appears in both Hindi and Marathi films.

Chhaya Kadam’s upcoming film, All We Imagine As Light, directed by Payal Kapadia competed, for the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes 2024.

While many movies with huge budgets and big stars are meeting a dismal fate at the box office, two low-budget films with lesser-known actors but high on content turned out to be sleeper hits this year. The two movies are Kiran Rao’s Laapata Ladies and Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express.

These films received good reviews from both audiences and critics. One thing that was common between them was actress Chhaya Kadam. Chhaya Kadam played a dangerous criminal in Madgaon Express while playing the role of a kind-hearted tea stall owner in Laapata Ladies.

The year has been kind to Chhaya Kadam because not only has she had two successful films this year, but she also got to attend her first Cannes Film Festival. Her upcoming film All We Imagine As Light directed by Payal Kapadia competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or.

Chhaya Kadam attended the festival dressed in traditional Marathi attire. In an Instagram post that she shared where she showed off her attire, she revealed that the saree and the nose ring she wore belonged to her late mother. She also expressed grief that she could not realise her dream of making her mother board a flight. In the caption, she wrote, “Mom, my dream of making you travel in a plane remains unfulfilled but today I brought your saree and nose ring on a flight to the Cannes Film Festival and so I am satisfied. Still, you were needed today to watch this. Love you a lot.”

These photos of Chhaya Kadam have gone viral on social media and fans are appreciating her look. Chhaya Kadam appears in both Hindi and Marathi films. She was born into a middle-class family with her father being a mill worker. Chhaya began her career in theatre before transitioning to film in 2009. She made her stage debut in Waman Kendre’s Zulva. Her first film, Baimanus was never released. She subsequently appeared in films such as Mi Sindhutai Sapkal, Baboo Band Baaja, and Kuni Ghar Deta Ka Ghar. Her debut in Hindi cinema came with Singham Returns, where she had a single scene with Ajay Devgn.
