1. Justice R Mahadevan takes charge in Madras High Court
On May 24, Justice R Mahadevan took charge as the Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court. He replaced Chief Justice Sanjay V Gangapurwala, who retired on May 23. The Central Government had issued a notification on May 22 announcing the appointment of Justice R Mahadevan. In 2013, Mahadevan was appointed as a Justice of Madras High Court.
R Mahadevan disposed of nearly 9,000 cases during his tenure as Justice.
2. Pratismita of Jharkhand created a world record in weightlifting
Indian weightlifters won gold medals at the World Youth Weightlifting Championship 2024 in Peru, South America. 15-year-old star weightlifter Pratishmita Bhoi won the gold medal in 40 kg women’s weightlifting. Pratishmita Bhoi created a world record by lifting 76 kg in clean and jerk.
Pratismitha lifted 57 kg in snatch weightlifting.
3. Mysore filmmaker gets award at Cannes Film Festival
Mysore filmmaker Chidananda S. Naik’s film ‘Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know’ won the La Cinéfa first prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 23. The film is based on a Kannada folk tale about an old woman who steals chickens.
In this category, India’s Manasi Maheshwari’s animation film ‘Bunihood’ won the third prize. Born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Manasi studied at the National Film and Television School in the UK after studying at NIFT.

4. Kamal Kishore takes over as SRSG at United Nations
On May 23, Indian official Kamal Kishore took over as Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG), according to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). He will serve as the special representative of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Kamal Kishore has been appointed in place of Mami Mizutori of Japan. He is the Secretary of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Kamal has about 30 years of experience in disaster risk reduction.
Kamal Kishore, 55, will serve as Assistant Secretary-General and SRSG for Disaster Risk Reduction at the UNDRR.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has issued a notification for contractual recruitment on various posts. According to the notification issued by the authority on May 20, recruitment is to be done on the posts of Senior Consultant (Communication), Executive (Graphics) and Executive (Content and Social Media). This job is on contract.
Educational Qualification :
- According to the notification, to apply for the post of Senior Consultant (Communication), candidates must have passed Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in Mass Communication / Journalism and should have at least 15 years of experience in the relevant field.
- At the same time, for the post of Executive (Graphics) and Executive (Content and Social Media), one must have a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject.
Age Range :
- For Senior Consultant, minimum age should be 35 years.
- Apart from this, the minimum age for executive posts should be 22 years.
- Candidate age should not be more than 63 Years for all posts.
2. Indian Air Force has released recruitment for Medical Assistant, 12th passed candidates can apply
Indian Air Force has released the notification for Medical Assistant Group Y Recruitment 2024. Such candidates who want to apply in this Air Force recruitment can apply online from 22 May 2024 to 05 June 2024. For this, the candidate has to visit the official website airmenselection.cdac.in will go on.
Recruitment in Air Force Group Y will be done after physical test, written test, adoptability test and medical test. Unmarried youth from Punjab, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh and Ladakh can apply for this.
Educational Qualification :
- For Y Group Medical Assistant Recruitment in Indian Air Force, candidates must have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects with minimum 50% marks.
- Apart from this, candidates having Diploma in Pharmacy or B.Sc. with 50% marks can apply for this.
Age Range :
- The candidate should be born between 2 January 2004 and 2 January 2008.

1. A 12-year-old girl had sent an email threatening to bomb the school
On May 9, a school in Lucknow received a bomb threat, after which a shocking case has come to light during the investigation by UPATS and UP Police. Investigation revealed that a 12-year-old girl from Maharashtra had sent the email threatening to bomb the school. Actually, she had received this task in an online game. Some children were playing on Discord and while playing, sent this email to the school. The girl had got the email ID from the school pamphlet. Police say that the girl is innocent and has no connection with Lucknow or the school.
2. Fresh admission started in IGNOU
Fresh admissions have started in Indira Gandhi National Open University i.e. IGNOU for July 2024. Interested candidates can register till June 30 by visiting ignouiop.samarth.edu.in.
