On Monday, the anti-rabies clinic was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon at Dr. Ram Manohar Institute of Medical Sciences.

Anti-rabies clinic was started in Lucknow’s Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. On Monday, the institute’s director Dr. CM Singh inaugurated the clinic. He said that victims bitten by dogs, monkeys and other animals will be treated in the OPD at the clinic.

Director Dr. CM Singh said that every 9 minutes there is one death due to rabies. To prevent this, after being bitten by an animal, wash the wound thoroughly, consult on time and get vaccinated. This clinic will be operated under the Community Medicine Department. CMS Dr. AK Singh, Dean Dr. Pradyumna Singh, Registrar Dr. Jyotsna Agarwal, Head of Community Medicine Department Dr. SD Kandpal and Nodal of Anti Rabies Clinic Dr. Manish Kumar Singh gave information about prevention, symptoms and vaccination of rabies.

25 lakh people were bitten in a year

Dr. Pankaj Saxena, Joint Director of Communicable Disease Directorate, said that in the year 2023, 45 lakh people of the state have been bitten by different animals. In this, 38.29 lakh people have been bitten by dogs only. Most of these were stray dogs. Four have died of rabies. The Rabies Free City Initiative is achieving the target with strategies to provide vaccination to dogs, population control, housing management for every one crore population. Municipal Corporation Animal Welfare Officer Dr. Abhinav Verma said that 99% of rabies transmission to humans occurs from dogs. Additional Director of Urban Local Bodies Dr. Ansari said that the target is to vaccinate 70% of dogs by the year 2030.
