Chennai: Hyundai Motor Installs First Fast Charging Station – News18

As of now, Hyundai has two EV cars including the Kona and the Ioniq5 SUV. Recently, it was reported that the carmaker was planning to introduce the Creta EV as well.

With many automobile makers introducing various segments of electric vehicles (EVs) in the market, there has been an increase in the set-up of EV charging stations all around the country.

Recently, Hyundai has expanded its public electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging network across various areas.

The EV charging station is located at the Spencer Plaza Mall in Anna Salai, Thousand Lights, in Tamil Nadu. The station has 150 kW and 30 kW DC fast charging guns.

Hyundai’s new EV charging station in Chennai is the first of its kind to have 180 kW of DC capacity. The Korean automaker also plans to install 100 new fast charging stations at important highways and cities across Tamil Nadu. The carmaker has also revealed that the new charging station is not just limited to the use of Hyundai owners but can also be used by other EV owners with compatible charging ports.

The EV charging station comes with its own Charger Management System with myHyundaiApp, which allows users easy location, navigation and pre-booking of charging slots. The app will also give users the option to make digital payments while their remote charging status is monitored.

According to Rushlane, Jae Wan Ryu, the Executive Director of Corporate Planning, HMIL, talked about the installation of the new EV charging station in Chennai. He said, “Tamil Nadu is home for Hyundai Motor India Limited, and we have been committed to Tamil Nadu since our inception. As we celebrate 28 years of HMIL in India, we are delighted to inaugurate our first-ever 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. ”

He further added, “In line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, we aim to enhance the convenience of all EV users, and hence our charging stations can be utilised by any four-wheeler EV user. HMIL envisages installing 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu to enhance the EV ecosystem and motivate more customers towards EV adoption across the state.”
