In the 2009 state Assembly elections, Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia of SDF won this seat beating Tshering Gyatso Kaleon of INC by a margin of 1578 votes which was 27.53% of the total votes polled in the constituency. SDF had a vote share of 61.18% in the seat.
