World number-4 Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida defeated the Indian pair 23-21, 21-11.
India’s Gayatri Gopichand and Trisha Jolly pair have been knocked out of the Singapore Open. In the semi-finals, world number-4 Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida defeated the Indian pair 23-21, 21-11 in a match that lasted 47 minutes.
With this, India’s journey in the tournament has ended. India’s Satwik-Chirag, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy have already been eliminated from the tournament.
Indian pair lost in consecutive games
The first game of the women’s doubles semi-final between Japan and India was very exciting. Neither pair was able to take a lead of more than one point. Japan lost the chance of match points thrice. However, due to the mistake of the Indian pair, Matsuyama and Shida managed to win the game. The Indian team looked under pressure in the second game. After the initial 2 points, the team started falling behind. Gayatri and Trisha lost 21-11 in the second game and were eliminated from the tournament.

This was the first semi-final of this season for India’s Trisha and Gayatri. In the round of 16, they defeated world number-2 South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee in three games 21-9, 14-21, 21-15. After this, they made it to the semi-finals by defeating world number-6 South Korean pair Kim Yeong and Kong Yong 21-18, 21-9, 24-23 in the quarter-finals. Earlier, both had reached the semi-finals of the 2023 All England Open. The team finished at number three.
Satwik-Chirag, Sindhu and Prannoy have already Outside
In the Singapore Open, World No. 1 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of India lost to the Danish pair in the Round of 32 in straight games 22-20, 21-18. In the men’s singles, India’s HS Prannoy lost to 11th seeded Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 13-21, 21-14, 15-21. Meanwhile, in the Round of 16 of women’s singles, Olympic medalist PV Sindhu was defeated by Carolina Marin of Spain 21-11, 11-21, 20-22.
