Welfare schemes to end malnutrition in Kaushambi are failing on the ground. Despite all efforts, more than 28 thousand children are fighting the battle of malnutrition. The situation is so dire that more than 11 thousand children are in the red category. Apart from this, more than 3 thousand children are suffering from malnutrition.

To eliminate malnutrition in the district, Poshan Mission Yojana is implemented in 1775 Anganwadi centers. Here the health of children is checked according to their height and weight. According to departmental data, 1,78,562 children are registered at Anganwadi centers.

In the month of April, 1,65,335 children were weighed. Out of these, 28,689 children were found to be malnourished. Out of these, 11,100 children are severely malnourished and are placed in the red category. Apart from this, in the month of April, 17 to 19 severely malnourished children were admitted to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC) located in the district hospital.

At present, only 6-month-old Arpit, son of Kishan Kumar, a resident of Kayampur in Kanhaiya Block, is undergoing treatment at NRC. According to District Program Officer Suresh Kumar, apart from weighing the children at the centers from time to time, checkups are also conducted. Severely malnourished children are being provided proper treatment.
