Tamil Actor Karunas Briefly Detained At Chennai Airport For Carrying Bullets: Report – News18
The officials allegedly found 40 bullets in his bag.
During inquiries, it was reportedly found that Karunas had a licence for a firearm.
On June 2, former MLA and actor Karunas was stopped by airport officials from boarding the flight at Chennai International Airport in Tamil Nadu. The authorities were shocked after they checked the actor’s bag, took immediate possession of it and began interrogating him. They allegedly found 40 bullets in his bag. As per reports, Karunas was intending to board a flight to Trichy, when he was stopped by the security officials and was denied entry to the flight. During inquiries, it was found that Karunas had a licence for a firearm and he claimed that the bullets were accidentally kept in his bag. After a thorough interrogation, he was allowed to go.
Reportedly, Karunas produced all the necessary documents for the 40 live bullets that were found in his bag. He claimed that during the elections when the Code of Conduct was in force, he followed the rules and deposited his gun at the police station near his residence in the Dindigul district. He further clarified that before leaving for the airport, he could not check the bag properly and was in quite a hurry. To prove his innocence, he also showed the document of the gun deposited at the police station. Finally, the bullets were returned to him and no case was registered against him.
Karunas is a renowned Indian actor, comedian, music composer, playback singer and politician who has left an indelible mark in the Tamil industry. He serves as the Vice President of the Nadigar Sangam. He has appeared in films like Dindigul Sarathy and Ambasamudram Ambani. In recent times, he has worked in films like Manimaran’s Sangathalaivan featuring Samuthirakani, M Muthaiah’s Viruman starring Karthi, Aadhaar- directed by Ramnath Palanikumar and starring Arun Pandian. In 2022, he was seen in Gatta Kusthi opposite Ravi Teja. His latest film was Rebel, which hit the screens in 2024. It is directed by first-time director Nikesh RS and bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja. It also stars GV Prakash Kumar, Mamitha Baiju, Shalu Rahim, Kalloori Vinoth and Adithya Baskar.
