A four-member central team, on two-day tour of West Bengal, has promised the post-poll violence victims all possible help. News18 spoke to a few of them at the BJP safe house in Kolkata
At least 180 Bharatiya Janata Party (workers) from different parts of West Bengal are staying at the party’s safe house in Kolkata from the day Lok Sabha poll results were announced.
Meet Jamal Ajmollah, who has come to the safe house even before the results were announced. Hailing from Pipuldah village of Minakha under the Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, Ajmollah was the BJP polling agent. He claims the Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers beat him up on the polling day, after which he fled and came to Kolkata. “They asked me how could I work for the BJP despite being a minority community member. They threatened me so much that I had to flee. I filed a case and even tried to go back, but it seems impossible,” he told News18.
Ramzan Ali Mondal from Bardhaman, where Dilip Ghosh contested, is facing similar issues. “They have threatened my wife and children too. She has gone back to her house. After the visits of the BJP central leadership and Governor, I went back, but could not stay there because of them.”
Amalendu Pramanik of Bamanpukut Minakha alleged the TMC workers destroyed his house. “On June 6, 50 people attacked my house. I don’t think I will ever go back home,” he said, as he broke down.
Raising the issue of post-poll violence, BJP’s Suvendhu Adhikari met the Governor with victims under a court order. A four-member central team, on two-day tour of the state, has promised the victims all possible help.
Living with fear, their only question is – when can they return home?
