Hearing on the fifth petition in the Supreme Court in the NEET case: Demand for background check and forensic investigation of all students scoring more than 620

The Supreme Court is to hear a new petition today regarding the cancellation of the NEET UG exam. 49 students and the Student Federation of India (SFI) have appealed to the court to cancel the exam and conduct re-examination for all students.

The petitioners have demanded a background check and forensic investigation of the students who scored more than 620 in the exam. At the same time, a CBI inquiry has also been demanded into the allegation of paper leak.

At the same time, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has demanded from the Supreme Court to club all the petitions filed in different High Courts of the country and hear them together in the apex court. NTA has filed 4 petitions to transfer all the cases to the Supreme Court. In this case, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice SVN Bhatti of the vacation bench of the court will hear these cases.

Petitions have been filed against NTA in 7 High Courts of the country
So far, petitions have been filed against NTA in 7 High Courts of the country regarding NEET paper leak, arbitrary grace marks and manipulation of score card records. On June 14, NTA had recommended transferring all the cases to the Supreme Court. So far, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court has issued notice to NTA in 4 different cases and sought a reply within two weeks.

Supreme Court rejected the demand for CBI investigation

During the hearing in the NEET case on June 19, the vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta refused to stay the NEET counseling. The bench rejected the demand for a CBI inquiry in the case. The court had said that we cannot order a CBI inquiry without hearing all the parties.

5 petitions in the Supreme Court, know what has happened in them so far

  • First: Student Shivangi Mishra and 9 other students filed a petition on June 1 before the declaration of the result. Along with stopping the counseling, the examination was cancelled and an inquiry was demanded. The Supreme Court refused to stop the counseling.
  • Second: Petitioner Hitesh Singh Kashyap filed the petition. 26 students from states like Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand etc. had paid a bribe of Rs 10 lakh each to select Jai Jal Ram examination centre in Godhra, Gujarat. The petition demands a CBI inquiry into the paper leak. The hearing will be held on July 8.
  • Third: Physicswala’s co-founder Alakh Pandey filed a petition against giving grace marks to 1563 students. The hearing was held on June 13. NTA said – Grace marks of 1563 students will be canceled. Results of all students will be released without grace marks. They can give the exam again.
  • Fourth: 20 students appealed to cancel the exam and conduct the exam again. They also demanded that the case be investigated by the CBI or any other independent agency under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
  • Fifth: 49 students and student organization – Student Federation of India has demanded to investigate all the candidates who scored more than 620 in the exam and cancel the exam and conduct re-examination for all the students. They have demanded investigation of the case by a committee formed on the orders of the court or by any independent agency.

Earlier on June 13, the university had rejected the allegations of paper leak and said that there was no evidence for it.
