Team India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs on Saturday at Antigua ground. This is Team India’s second victory in the Super-8 stage. With this, the team has moved closer to the semi-finals.
Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto won the toss and decided to bowl. On the batting pitch, every top order batsman of Team India scored except Suryakumar and scored 196 runs. Hardik Pandya completed his fifty by hitting a four on the last ball of the Indian innings.
When India started bowling on the same pitch, they restricted Bangladeshi batsmen to 146 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took 3 wickets in his 4 overs and conceded just 19 runs. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto kept fighting alone. He scored 40 runs. Jasprit Bumrah sent him to the pavilion. Match Analysis…
winner of the match
Hardik Pandya: The Indian all-rounder came to bat in the 12th over. The team had lost 4 wickets and the score was 108 runs. The challenge was to give a big target. Hardik Pandya batted till the last ball. He did not let the team disintegrate. He scored his first fifty in this World Cup by hitting a four on the last ball and took the team’s score to 196. When the bowling started, captain Rohit Sharma gave the 5th over to Hardik. Hardik dismissed the in-form Liton Das on the third ball itself. Suryakumar caught Liton’s catch on Hardik’s slow ball.
Hero of victory
Virat Kohli: He came to open with Rohit Sharma. Rohit returned to the pavilion after scoring 23 runs. Despite this, he did not let the pace of runs decrease in the power play. He also made a partnership of 32 runs with Rishabh Pant. Kohli scored 37 runs. He hit 4 boundaries, including 3 sixes. He scored the most runs for Team India after Hardik Pandya.
Kuldeep Yadav: Rohit Sharma brought Kuldeep Yadav to bowl in the 8th over and by the end of the 14th over, Kuldeep had dismissed 4 important batsmen of Bangladesh. Kuldeep gave only 3 runs in the first over. After this, Kuldeep came in the 10th over. He dismissed Tandiz Hasan LBW on the fourth ball of this over. Kuldeep then came in the 12th over and sent Tauheed Hridoy to the pavilion. In the 14th and the last over of his spell, Kuldeep took the wicket of Bangladesh’s most experienced all-rounder Shakib Ul Hasan.
Jasprit Bumrah: India’s top pacer did not let Bangladesh score runs at any point. Jaspreet gave only 13 runs in 4 overs. His bowling economy was 3.25 i.e. he gave the same number of runs in every over. Jaspreet also took the wickets of Bangladesh captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto and Rishad Hossain.
Turning point: Toss decision
So far 20 T20 matches have been played on the pitch of Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and the team batting first has won 12 matches. But today when Bangladesh captain Shanto won the toss, he decided to bowl.
Indian captain Rohit was happy with this decision because when Ravi Shastri asked him what decision he would have taken after winning the toss, Rohit said.. batting. The effect of this decision was also visible. In the first innings, the pitch looked more beneficial for batting. In the second innings, the ball was coming slowly and sometimes the bounce was also low. Due to this, Bangladesh batsmen were seen in trouble. Despite winning the toss, Shanto could not take advantage of this opportunity.
Reasons for Bangladesh’s defeat
- Could not stop Indian batsmen Be it powerplay, middle overs or death overs, Bangladesh bowlers never seemed to put pressure on Indian batsmen. Rohit Sharma got out in the fourth over, but despite this Virat and Pant scored 53 runs in 6 overs, the run rate was close to 10. Every Indian batsman scored 25-30 runs. There were 4 partnerships of 30 plus runs and one partnership of 53 runs. Bangladesh bowlers could not control the run rate. Indian bowlers bowled 51 dot balls and Bangladesh bowlers bowled 37 dot balls.
- Batsmen were slow in the powerplay Bangladeshi batsmen scored only 42 runs in 6 overs of powerplay i.e. 7 runs in every over. They also lost the wicket of Liton Das. India’s run rate in powerplay was close to 10. Bangladesh, chasing a target of 197, fell behind here.
- did not see any attempt to win Whether it was Bangladesh’s bowlers or batsmen, they did not show any desire to win. The bowlers wasted runs, did not create pressure and the batsmen also scored at a slow pace. Partnerships were not formed. Bangladesh’s biggest partnership was between openers Liton and Tanjid. Both of them added 35 runs in 27 balls. India had 3 such partnerships and that too in fewer balls. Bangladesh batsmen did not appear aggressive while chasing a big score.
Fighter of the Match- Nazmul Hasan Shanto
Chasing a big target, only captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto fought for Bangladesh. Shanto played an innings of 40 runs. He hit a four and 3 sixes. He shared a 31-run partnership with Tanjid. Tanjid, Hridoy and Shakib lost their wickets. Shanto tried to form a partnership, but no one was able to support him. After this, Jaspreet Bumrah ended Bangladesh’s fight by taking his wicket in the 16th over.
