Australia dropped 5 catches: Jadran got a reprieve on 15 runs, Stoinis’ send-off celebration after taking the wicket
The 8th match of Super-8 in T-20 World Cup was very exciting. Both the teams bowled brilliantly. However, poor fielding was also seen from Australia’s side. The team missed 5 catches and 2 runout opportunities. Playing first, Afghanistan gave the Kangaroos a target of 149 runs. In response, Australia could only score 127 runs in 19.2 overs against Gulbadin Naib and Naveen Ul Haq. Match Moments… 1. Adam Jampa missed Zadran’s catch The 6th over of Afghanistan’s innings was bowled by Pat Cummins. Ibrahim Zadran hit a four on his third ball. After this, he bowled the fourth ball forward. Zadran played a shot towards the cover. Jampa was standing on the boundary but he was far away from the ball. He dived to catch the ball. However, he could not catch it and Zadran got another four. This mistake cost Australia dearly. After this, Zadran played an innings of 51 runs. 2. Stoinis’ send-off celebration after Gurbaz’s wicket The 16th over was bowled by Marcus Stoinis. Afghanistan had not lost any wicket yet. Stoinis bowled a length ball on the fifth ball of the over. Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit a shot towards deep square leg. But David Warner stepped forward and caught the catch. Stoinis did the send-off celebration after taking the wicket. 3. Travis Head dropped Rashid’s catch The 18th over of the innings was given to Pat Cummins. Cummins was bowling his third over. He bowled the ball outside the off stump. Rashid hit a shot on the deep. Travis Head was standing just a short distance away from the ball. He stepped forward and dived but the ball slipped from his hands. However, Rashid was out on the last ball of the same over after scoring 2 runs. 4. Ashton Agar dropped an easy catch The 19th over was bowled by Josh Hazlewood. Karim Janat got a lifeline on the second ball of the over. Hazelwood bowled the ball outside the off stump. Janat played a shot towards the cover. Fielder Ashton Agar turned around to catch the ball and dropped an easy catch. Karim Janat played an innings of 13 runs. 5. Noor took Maxwell’s catch at 51 runs The 15th over of Australia’s innings was given to Gulbadin Naib. He bowled the fourth ball of the over outside the off stump. Maxwell, playing at 51, hit a shot towards backward point. Fielder Noor Ahmed dived and caught the ball. He rolled on the ground several times after that. But did not drop the catch. This proved to be a turning point in the match for Afghanistan. After this, the Australian team did not get a chance to recover. 6. Gulbadin Naib clean bowled Cummins The 17th over was bowled by Gulbadin Naib. He was bowling the last over of his spell. After bowling two dot balls, he bowled a slow ball to Pat Cummins. Cummins tried to play the ball across the line but was beaten. The ball went between the bat and the foot and went into the wicket. Gulbadin dismissed Pat Cummins for 3 runs.
