Every ball of this match kept the cricket fans captivated. First Rohit’s explosive batting, then Bumrah and Kuldeep’s amazing bowling, then Axar Patel’s catch. Travis Head, who was on the crease, did not let the Indian camp breathe easy, but in this thrilling match that kept swinging from one side to the other, India won.

Rohit Sharma’s team had responded to Pat Cummins’ statement given before the ODI World Cup final on 19 November 2023, which led to defeat and also pained cricket fans. Cummins had said – Nothing gives more satisfaction than silencing more than 1.25 lakh Indian cricket fans.

Australia had won this final. Australia, chasing 241, won the one-sided match by scoring 137 runs. Travis Head was still standing today. He was also scoring runs. As long as he was on the crease, no one was talking about India’s victory, but Team India had victory, not defeat, in mind today. And Rohit Sharma’s team won. Analysis of victory over Australia…

1. Match Winner- Rohit Sharma

The foundation of India’s victory was laid by Captain Rohit Sharma’s powerful batting. Rohit scored 92 runs at a strike rate of 224. He hit 8 sixes and 7 fours. At one point his strike rate had crossed 300. Rohit scored the fastest fifty in this World Cup, scoring 50 runs in 19 balls. He missed the fastest century. But Rohit did not stop as long as he was at the crease. Due to his innings, the team’s score crossed 200 and a psychological pressure was exerted on Australia.

Hero of victory

Axar Patel: India’s spin all-rounder Akshar Patel’s name is written first among the heroes of victory. The reason is not only that he gave 21 runs in 3 overs and took the wicket of Marcus Stoinis, but the catch he took of Australian captain Mitchell Marsh did not seem possible under any circumstances. Marsh’s powerful shot on a short ball was going over the boundary, but Akshar stood in front like a wall. He jumped in the air and took an impossible catch with one hand. Such a catch that Australia could not believe, but India’s hope of winning became stronger.

Jasprit Bumrah: India’s lead pacer took just one wicket. The wicket which not only Team India but all Indian fans were eagerly waiting for. Travis Head, who was leading Australia towards victory, was trapped by Bumrah in his slow off cutter. The ball went in the air and Rohit Sharma completed the catch. Bumrah gave 29 runs in 4 overs. His bowling has a big role in this victory.

Kuldeep Yadav : 4 overs, 24 runs and 2 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav put a break on Australia which was easily moving towards 205 runs. He sent the dangerous Mitchell Marsh and Glen Maxwell back to the pavilion. Whenever India came under pressure, he reduced that pressure by taking wickets.

Arshdeep Singh : Arshdeep Singh took the maximum 3 wickets against Australia. In the very first over, he got opener David Warner caught out in the slip. Suryakumar took a brilliant catch. He bowled 2 overs in the powerplay and gave 20 runs. After this, Rohit gave him the ball directly in the 16th over. Australia needed 65 runs in 30 balls and Arshdeep gave only 7 runs. He came to bowl in the 18th over and gave 14 runs, but took the wickets of explosive batsmen like Matthew Wade and Tim David. The pressure of both runs and wickets increased on Australia.

The Turning Point

Wickets of Maxwell and Head
When Glenn Maxwell came to the crease, 87 runs had been scored in 9 overs. Travis Head was at the crease and the only need was to maintain the run rate. Maxwell had hit 20 runs in just 12 balls. He had hit 2 fours and 1 six. There was a partnership of 41 runs between Travis Head and Maxwell in just 25 balls. Australia was on the front foot and the run chase seemed to be completed easily, but Kuldeep came with his fourth over. He trapped Maxwell on the first ball of the 14th over. Maxwell wanted to move forward and hit a big shot, but he was bowled on Kuldeep’s leg spin. Australia came under pressure and Travis Head also got worried because his fellow batsman who was scoring runs at a fast pace had returned to the pavilion.

Travis Head had scored 75 runs. 58 runs were needed in 24 balls to win and the form Head was in, these runs did not look like much. Rohit brought in his most experienced bowler Jaspreet Bumrah. Head took one run on the first ball and Tim David on the second. Then Head was in front. Bumrah bowled a slower off cutter. Head tried to play a big shot, but got caught in Jaspreet Bumrah’s trick. The ball took the edge of the bat and bounced in the air and captain Rohit Sharma standing at the covers took the catch.

3 reasons for India’s victory

  • 92 runs by Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma played an innings of 92 runs. This innings did not let India’s run rate go below 10 from the power play to the middle overs. Due to these 92 runs, Team India reached 205 runs. Half of the runs in the target given by India were Rohit Sharma’s.
  • Rohit’s captaincy, bowling change Even though 205 runs had to be chased, Rohit Sharma knew that Australia cannot be taken lightly. This is what happened, Head’s innings troubled them. But Rohit Sharma kept changing the field. He did not let the mix of spin and pace deteriorate. Due to this, the Australian batsmen were not able to get comfortable in front of the bowling. Only Travis Head was able to score big quickly. Apart from him and Marsh, no batsman was able to score more than 20 runs.
  • Bowlers keep taking wickets Australia’s run rate was around 10 till 12 overs. But Kuldeep, Akshar, Arshdeep and Bumrah bowled tightly. Especially the Australians could not score many runs on the balls of Akshar Patel and Bumrah. These bowlers continuously took the wickets of Australian batsmen. The pressure of runs and wickets increased on the Kangaroos.

Fighter of the Match: Travis Head

Australian opener Travis Head played an innings of 75 runs. Head played this innings in 43 balls and scored runs quickly. He hit 9 fours and 4 sixes. As long as Head was on the crease, India’s victory seemed far away. The Australian team fell apart as soon as Head was out.
