Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday claimed that the previous Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government led by Naveen Patnaik conspired to assassinate him for attempting to expose their alleged corruption.
“To take revenge, the previous government had planned to kill me. They tried to kill me in a bomb blast at Mandua in Keonjhar. However, by the grace of people, I survived, God saved me,” Majhi said during a felicitation event in Jhumpura, his hometown in Keonjhar district.
He further added, “People had elected me to the State Legislative Assembly to fight against the corrupt system of Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government. As long as we have blessings from God, we will work for people.”
Majhi was referring to an attack in October 2021 when two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants threw bombs at his vehicle while he was returning home, as per Hindustan Times report.
The 52-year-old senior BJP leader took oath as Odisha CM on June 12 in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His ascension marks the end of BJD’s 24-year rule under Naveen Patnaik.
