1. Vikram Mistry becomes Foreign Secretary: On June 28, the central government appointed Vikram Mistry as the next foreign secretary. He will replace Mohan Kwatra. Vikram’s appointment will be effective from July 15, 2024.
Vikram Mistry is currently the Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) of the country.
- Vikram Mistry is a 1989 batch IFS officer.
- Vikram was appointed to the NSA Secretariat in 2022.
- Vikram has previously served as personal secretary to 3 Prime Ministers.
- He has worked during the tenure of Inder Kumar Gujral in 1997, Dr. Manmohan Singh in 2012 and Narendra Modi in 2014.

2. A big record was made for the first time in the 90-year history of Women’s Test: The Test series between India and South Africa women’s cricket team started on 28 June. In this, India’s Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma made the record of the biggest partnership as openers in the history of women’s Test cricket.
Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma made a partnership of 292 runs for the first wicket.
- Smriti Mandhana scored 149 runs in this partnership.
- In this match, Shafali scored the first century of her Test career.
- Shefali Verma became the second Indian batsman to score a double century in women’s Test cricket.
- Shafali hit 23 fours and 8 sixes in this Test cricket.
- Mithali Raj scored the first double century in women’s Test cricket.

3. 6 successful trials of ‘Abhyaas’ were conducted: On June 27, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired the High Speed Expendable Aerial Target HEAT ‘Abhyas’ from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur test range in Odisha. ‘Abhyas’ is used as a target for evaluating various missile systems.
DRDO successfully tested ‘Abhyas’ 6 times in a row.
- In the last one year, 10 developmental flights of ‘Abhyas’ have been conducted.
- This time the test was done with the help of a single booster.
- During the test, several tracking sensors, including telemetry, radar and electro-optical tracking systems, that monitor ‘Abhyaas’, were tested.
- ‘Abhyaas’ can also be used as a decoy aircraft to mislead the enemy.
- ‘Abhyas’ was designed by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment, Bengaluru.
- It was manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Turbo (L&T).

4. Tata Group becomes India’s most valuable brand: The Brand Finance India-100 2024 report was released on June 27. According to this report, Tata Group has once again been declared the most valuable brand in India.
- The brand value of Tata Group grew by 9% to $28.6 billion i.e. Rs 2.38 lakh crore.
- This growth in the brand value of Tata Group was seen due to strong focus on digitalization, e-commerce, electric vehicles and electronics.
- Infosys is the second most valuable brand in India after Tata.
- The brand value of Infosys has reached $14.2 billion i.e. Rs 1.18 lakh crore.
- HDFC Group is at third place with a brand value of $10.4 billion (Rs 86 thousand crores).
- The merger of HDFC Limited and HDFC Bank has seen an increase in the brand value of the HDFC Group.

5. Gautam Singhania became MD of Raymond: On June 27, Raymond Company once again appointed Gautam Hari Singhania as Managing Director (MD) for the next 5 years. This decision of the company was approved by the shareholders in Raymond’s Annual General Meeting.
Gautam Singhania’s new term will start from July 1, 2024.
- The company confirmed that the re-appointment was done as per the requirements of stock exchange circulars.
- Raymond’s shareholder advising firm had opposed Singhania’s appointment a few days ago.
- The firm had also advised on conducting an independent probe into the domestic violence and misappropriation of funds case levelled by Gautam Singhania’s wife Nawaz Modi.
- Gautam’s father Vijaypat Singhania founded the Raymond Group.
- In 1990, Gautam became the director of Raymond Group.
- Gautam’s net worth is more than $1.4 billion.
- Gautam Singhania was born on 9 September 1965.
