After 2011, everyone was longing to see Kohli or Rohit lift the World Cup trophy. The long wait of 13 years is over. Rohit’s team snatched the T20 World Cup from South Africa. They won such a final that everyone had thought was a loss.

Rohit, who was batting brilliantly throughout the World Cup, did not perform well in the final, but Kohli was adamant. He scored 76 runs. Akshar and Shivam also put in their best efforts. They gave a target of 177 runs.

South Africa came out to bat. Till 14 overs, their batsmen were moving fast towards victory. After this, Jaspreet Bumrah, Hardik Pandya returned to bowl and India came back in the match. Suryakumar Yadav could not score runs, but a catch turned the match around.

India kept fighting till the last over and snatched the victory. Chasing 177 runs, South Africa was restricted to 169. Defeated by 7 runs. South Africa, which has been called chokers for 32 years, returned with a stain this time too.

Now the analysis of the final…

Match Winner- Virat Kohli

Before the final, Virat had scored a total of 75 runs in 7 matches. He scored 76 runs in the final itself. At a time when India lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Surya Kumar in the powerplay itself. Virat scored the most runs in the score of 176.

Hero of victory

1. Axar Patel
Rohit Sharma sent Akshar to bat before Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dubey. He was given the responsibility to take care of the wickets and Akshar did just that. He came in after 3 wickets fell in the 5th over and got out in the 15th over, that too unfortunately. He ran for a run and got out. But before that he played an innings of 47 runs, hitting 4 sixes.

2. Hardik Pandya
He scored only 5 runs in batting, but did wonders with the ball. Took the wicket of Heinrich Klaasen who had scored 52 runs in 27 balls. In the last over when 12 runs were needed, he dismissed David Miller and Kagiso Rabada.

3. Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit took the first wicket of South Africa. He bowled out opener Reeza Hendricks in the second over. After this, he returned in the 16th over, when the match was in South Africa’s favor. 30 runs were needed from 30 balls. Bumrah gave only 4 runs. After this, he returned in the 18th over and gave only 2 runs. In this over, he bowled out Marco Jansen, this was not just a bowl but a seal of victory. South Africa had lost 6 wickets.

4. Arshdeep Singh
Captain Aiden Markram was dismissed within the powerplay. Opener De Kock, who was moving towards a half-century, was dismissed. Arshdeep took 2 wickets for just 20 runs in 4 overs. De Kock’s wicket was a big success for India.

2 reasons for victory…

1. India’s 2 big partnerships
Virat Kohli came to bat in the first over and stayed till the 19th over. He scored 76 runs. Apart from this innings, there were two partnerships which took the score to 176. Kohli first shared a 72-run partnership with Axar Patel, then added 57 runs with Shivam Dubey.

2. Indian pacers turned the game around in the last 4 overs
Indian fast bowlers performed brilliantly in the match. The trio of Bumrah, Arshdeep and Pandya took 7 wickets together. These three did not allow 30 runs to be scored in the last 5 overs. Bumrah gave 6 runs in the next 2 overs and took one wicket. Hardik gave 12 runs in 2 overs and took 3 wickets. Arshdeep bowled one over and gave 4 runs. These overs won the match.

Turning Point

1. Klaasen’s wicket
Akshar came to bowl the 15th over, Heinrich Klaasen scored 24 runs off his 6 balls. After this he completed 50 by taking a single in Bumrah’s over. Now only 26 runs were needed in 24 balls to win. Hardik came in the 17th over and took Klaasen’s wicket on the very first ball. This was the wicket after which Team India’s hopes of victory were revived.

2. Surya takes a memorable catch, dangerous Miller gets out
South Africa had to score 16 runs in 6 balls and David Miller was at the crease. Hardik bowled a low full-toss on the off stump. Miller played a shot which was crossing the boundary. Surya Kumar caught the ball while going outside the boundary, bounced the ball and completed the catch by coming inside the boundary.

Fighter of the Match – Henrik Claesson

Heinrich Klaasen was the fighter of the match. He played an explosive innings of 52 runs in 27 balls. Klaasen scored at a strike rate of 192.59. He hit 2 fours and missed 5 wickets.

4 statements after the final match…

We did it, it is difficult to describe the journey
It is very difficult to describe the journey. There are 3-4 years of hard work behind this victory. We have lost such matches before, but today we have shown how to come out of difficult situations. A lot has to be done to win the tournament. I am proud of my players.

I am especially thankful to the team management for allowing us to play. Not just me, but no one doubted Virat’s form. He has done a lot for this game in 15-16 years. Virat stood firm at one end even today and the other batsmen batted around him. I cannot describe Bumrah’s praise in words. I have played a lot of cricket with Bumrah.
– Rohit Sharma, Captain, World Cup winning Indian team

It will take time for us to recover, we deserved the final
It will take time for us to recover from this, but I am proud of our team for the way they played. We felt this target was achievable, but we could not win. We have proved that we deserved to play the final. It is still a proud moment for us.
– Aiden Markram, Captain, South Africa which lost the final

Nothing can be better than this
This is an important moment, my family is here. There can be no better moment than this. Throughout this tournament, I tried to bowl according to the ball. We have worked hard to win this trophy. (In the 18th over), the ball was reverse swinging and I was trying to bowl on the length.
– Jasprit Bumrah, Player of the Tournament

This was my last T20 match for India
This was my last T20 World Cup and we wanted to win it. This was my last T20 match for India. I think this is the right time to retire and now the time has come for the new generation to take this legacy forward. This was an open secret. This was Rohit’s 9th World Cup, while it was my sixth T20 World Cup. I was not doing well in the last few matches. The feelings inside me will not be able to come out at this time.
– Virat Kohli, Player of the Match
