India’s record-breaking performance continues in the one-match Test series being played between India and South Africa at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The Indian team has made the highest total of an innings in the history of women’s Test cricket. On the second day of the match, i.e. Saturday, the team declared the innings at 603 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.
Earlier, the record for the highest team score was in the name of Australia. They had declared the innings at 575 for 9 against South Africa on February 15 this year.
In this innings of India, opener Shefali Verma scored the fastest double century. She was run out after scoring 205 runs in 197 balls. This was the first century innings of her career. At the same time, Smriti Mandhana also played an innings of 149 runs.
Like Sehwag, Shefali completed her double century at 194
Known by the name of former Indian men’s cricket team batsman Virender Sehwag, Shefali also scored a double century in the same style as Sehwag. Shefali had touched the 200 mark on 194 runs. The interesting thing is that in 2008 when Sehwag scored 319 runs against South Africa, he also completed a double century on the same ground in 194 balls. However, Shefali was run out after scoring 5 runs on the next three balls.
Mandhana and Shefali made the biggest partnership for the first wicket
In the match being played against South Africa, Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana made a partnership of 292 runs in 312 balls for the first wicket. This partnership was the biggest partnership for the first wicket in Tests. Before them, this record was in the name of Kiran Baloch and Sajida Shah of Pakistan. They had made a partnership of 241 runs against West Indies in Karachi in 2004. This was the biggest partnership for any wicket for India.
525 runs were scored on the first day, Harmanpreet, Richa and Jemima also scored fifties
India won the toss and decided to bat. On the first day, Shefali was out after scoring 205 runs, Smriti Mandhana 149, Jemima Rodrigues 55 and Shubha Satheesh 15 runs. By the end of the day’s play, Richa Ghosh was unbeaten on 43 and captain Harmanpreet Kaur was unbeaten on 42 runs. By stumps, the team had scored 525 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Early on the second day, the first wicket to fall was that of Harmanpreet (69) in 112.4 overs. Later, Richa Ghosh was dismissed for 86 in 115.1 overs as India declared the innings at 603 for 6.

Smriti Mandhana scored centuries in two consecutive matches. In the second ODI, for the first time, 4 women players scored centuries in a match.
