Aviation regulator DGCA has sought a report from Air India regarding the chartered flight of Air India carrying the Indian team stranded in Barbados, South Africa. In fact, reports have emerged that this flight was scheduled from Newark in the US to Delhi, but it was diverted to Barbados, due to which passengers at Newark Airport were troubled.

After winning the T20 World Cup, the Indian team was stuck in Barbados for 3 days due to storm Beryl. The team is being brought back today by Air India’s ‘Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC)’ chartered flight. The team will reach New Delhi between 5 and 6 am on Thursday.

Air India claims- We had informed the passengers a day in advance
Regarding this, an Air India official said that passengers did not face any inconvenience due to sending Boeing 777 aircraft to Barbados. Most of the passengers who had booked tickets for the Newark to Delhi flight on July 2 were already informed.

The official said that some passengers who could not be informed about the flight cancellation reached the airport and were taken to New York by road. Those passengers were adjusted in the flight from New York to Delhi.

Had to come back on 1st July
The Indian team was scheduled to fly to New York on Monday to return to India, but the team’s schedule was disrupted due to bad weather. Reports said that Hurricane Beryl, which was in the Atlantic, was blowing winds at a speed of 210 kmph. This Category 4 storm was about 570 km east-southeast of Barbados and due to this, operations at the airport were halted.

Team India became world champion on 29 June
The team won the T20 World Cup on 29 June. The Indian team has become the champion in this tournament after 17 years. Not only this, India has ended the drought of ICC trophy after 11 years. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final match on the ground of Barbados.
