World champion Indian team lost to Zimbabwe: All three debutants could not even score 10 runs; 5 reasons for the crushing defeat

The target of 116 runs…and in the run chase, the world champion Indian team was all out at 102, that too against a team like Zimbabwe. This is surprising, but this is what happened in the first match of the India-Zimbabwe T20 series on Saturday. The Indian team, which won the T20 World Cup last week, lost by 13 runs, although there was no member of the world champion team in this team.
At Harare Sports Club, India’s young captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl and Zimbabwe scored 115 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Team India was all out for 102 runs in 19.5 overs. This is Zimbabwe’s third win over India. With this win, the host team took a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series.
This match reminded us of the match played 8 years ago in which India lost by 2 runs. Then captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni could not score 7 runs in the last over.

1. Match Winner- Sikandar Raza
The captain gave an all-round performance. When he came to play, the team had lost two wickets for 40 runs. In such a situation, Raza shared 11 runs for the third wicket with Madhavre and 23 runs for the fourth wicket with Diane Myers. Sikandar scored 17 runs in 19 balls with the help of a six and a four. Then he turned the match around by dismissing captain Shubhman Gill in bowling. He took three wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. He became the Player of the Match.
2. Hero of victory
Clive Madande: The wicketkeeper batsman played a useful innings of 29 runs off 25 balls with 4 fours. He added 25 runs off 27 balls for the last wicket with Tendai Chatara. Due to these runs, the team was able to reach a score of 115. At one point, the team had lost 9 wickets for 90 runs.
Tendai Chatara: First he supported Madande and helped the team cross 100. Then he took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 3.5 overs and played a key role in getting the Indian team all out for 102 runs.
3. Turning point- Gill’s wicket, out after scoring 31 runs
Shubman Gill returns to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs. After this wicket, the match slipped out of India’s hands.
The wicket of Indian captain Shubman Gill was the turning point of the match. He was out as the sixth batsman after scoring 31 runs. When Gill was out, the Indian team had to score 69 runs in 58 balls and had 4 wickets in hand. After Gill’s dismissal, Zimbabwe’s bowlers dominated.
4. 5 reasons for defeat
- The 10th wicket partnership was taken lightly India won the toss and chose to field first. This decision proved to be correct and the team bowled out Zimbabwe for 90 runs in 16 overs. From here the Indian bowlers could not take the last wicket. Wicketkeeper Clive Madande scored 29 runs, he shared a 25-run partnership with Tendai Chatara and took the score to 115. This became the biggest difference in India’s 13-run target.
- All three players playing their debut match disappointed India handed out debut caps to 3 players for the Zimbabwe tour. Opener Abhishek Sharma could not open his account even after playing 4 balls. Riyan Parag, who came at number-4, was out after scoring 2 runs off 3 balls. Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel could score only 6 runs off 14 balls.
- Shubhaman did not get support, lost 6 wickets within 50 runs All three debutant batsmen of India could not score even 10 runs together. Due to which pressure mounted on India and the team lost 5 wickets for 43 runs. Captain Shubman Gill stood at one end, but he did not get any support. In the 11th over, he too became the victim of Sikandar Raza, he scored 31 runs.
- beautiful left alone After losing 6 wickets for 47 runs, Washington Sundar took charge of India. But in front of him, Ravi Bishnoi was out after scoring 9 runs and Avesh Khan was out after scoring 16 runs. The team lost 8 wickets at a score of 84 runs. The team also lost the 9th wicket in the form of Mukesh Kumar at a score of 86 runs. Sundar tried from here too, but could only take the team to 102 runs. He was out after scoring 27 runs in 34 balls.
- Excellent bowling by Raza-Chatara Only 2 bowlers from Zimbabwe conceded runs at an economy rate of more than 6. Among them, Sikandar Raza took 3 wickets for 25 runs in 4 overs. The economy rate of 4 bowlers of the team was less than 5. Tendai Chatara took 3 wickets for 16 runs. Brian Bennett, Wellington Masakadza and Blessing Muzarabani got 1 wicket each.
5. Fighter of the Match – Washington Sundar
Spin all-rounder Washington Sundar was the fighter of the match. He stood till the end and scored 27 runs in 34 balls. Sundar also took 2 wickets for 11 runs in his quota of 4 overs. But he could not make Team India win.
