The Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket, Wahab Riaz was in the spotlight after he dropped a catch in the World Championship of Legends match.
Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz has been criticised for his poor fielding effort in a World Championship of Legends match. Riaz dropped an easy catch at the boundary line during a big-ticket clash between Pakistan Champions and India Champions at Edgbaston in Birmingham on July 6.
The incident transpired in the final over of India’s innings. Pakistan’s Amer Amin bowled a slow delivery to Anureet Singh, who tried to send the ball out of the ground. The India Champions batter, however, mistimed the shot and the ball went straight up in the air. Riaz looked to be in a comfortable position to complete the catch but the ball somehow slipped out of his hands.

Wahab Riaz’s miss was not quite costly as Pakistan Champions ended up winning the match by 68 runs. The Younis Khan-led side batted first and set a mammoth target of 243 runs, riding on half-centuries by Kamran Akmal, Sharjeel Khan and Shoaib Maqsood.
For India Champions, Robin Uthappa made a blazing start to the chase but failed to survive long. The opener returned to the pavilion in the third over after contributing 22 runs to the scoresheet. Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina then stitched a 71-run stand.
Shoaib Malik broke their partnership by dismissing Rayudu at 39 runs. Raina completed his half-century but didn’t get any support from his teammates. Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj Singh made some efforts but fell victim to Malik and Wahab Riaz respectively. India Champions folded their innings with 175 runs, losing nine wickets in 20 overs.
