Due to the rains in the state, the water level of the rivers has started rising. The rising water level of the Saryu river in Ballia has started swallowing the agricultural land. The rising water level of the river has caused worry lines on the foreheads of the people living in the riparian areas.

Saryu river rose 14 cm in eight hours
There was no water at Ballia’s Chandpur gauge till Sunday evening. The gauge started moving on Monday. The water level of the river was 56.19 meters at 8 am on Monday which reached 56.33 meters at 4 pm. The water level of the river increased rapidly by 14 cm within eight hours. That is, the speed of the river’s rise is about two and a quarter centimeters per hour.
The fast flow of the river is like a dagger which has engulfed hundreds of acres of agricultural land from Sultanpur to Bhojpurwa in Bansdih tehsil area of Ballia. This is continuing unabated. To stop the erosion of the river, barriers were built in front of villages like Renghan, Rampur Nambari etc. but no one paid attention from Sultanpur to Bhojpurwa. The erosion of the river stream continues in this area.
Seeing the water level of the Saryu river rising, the Deputy District Magistrate arrived to investigate.

Musafir Yadav’s house was washed away in the strong waves of the Saryu river in Gopalnagar Tadi of Bairia tehsil area. This caused panic among the people of the embankment area. People started collecting their belongings. On receiving the information, Deputy District Magistrate Sunil Kumar inspected the spot.
Also, arrangements were made for the people living at the mouth of the erosion to stay in the Panchayat Bhawan and the primary school. The SDM warned that no one would stay in the Tadi Basti. They should vacate their houses and go to the primary school.

At present, about 80 families including Hareram, Ashok Ramkhelavan, Radheshyam, Dharamraj, Ramvichar, Baban, Shobhnath, Shivnarayan, Bachcha Yadav, Nageshwari, Parshuram, Dudhnath live at the mouth of the erosion. They are facing danger.
