CBI arrests 11 accused: NTA will file affidavit in Supreme Court today; Next hearing of NEET case on July 11

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will file its affidavit in the NEET-UG case in the Supreme Court today. On July 8, CJI Chandrachud’s bench heard the NEET paper leak case, in which NTA was asked to file its reply by July 10.

In fact, the Supreme Court heard the medical entrance exam NEET-2024 controversy for 2 hours and 20 minutes on Monday, July 8. The court had asked the NTA to provide information about the candidates who took advantage of the irregularities and the CBI to give the update of the investigation so far. The next hearing of the NEET-UG case will be on July 11.

On July 9, the CBI arrested two NEET exam candidates from Gaya and Nalanda in Bihar. So far, the CBI has arrested 11 accused in the NEET-UG case.

Before the hearing, on July 5, the Central Government had filed its affidavit in the Supreme Court on the NEET UG exam controversy. In the affidavit, the government had said that cancelling the entire exam would not be appropriate. The CBI has been ordered to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The government said in its defense that if the exam is canceled, then lakhs of honest students will be in danger.

CBI arrested 2 more accused from Bihar

The CBI has arrested two more people, including a candidate from Patna, in the NEET-UG paper leak case, taking the total number of people arrested by the agency to 11. Investigation officers said on Tuesday, this is the first time that the CBI has arrested a candidate in connection with alleged irregularities in NEET-UG.

He said that the father of NEET-UG candidate Sunny, a resident of Nalanda, and another candidate Ranjeet Kumar, a resident of Gaya, have been arrested. The CBI has so far arrested eight people in the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak case, including one each from Latur and Godhra in Gujarat in connection with exam manipulation and one from Dehradun. The agency had earlier arrested the principal and vice-principal of Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, in the case.

CBI will do the complete investigation

Students, their parents and coaching institutes have filed petitions against the examination in the Supreme Court. In its affidavit, the Union Education Ministry said that the government has asked the CBI to investigate the entire matter of alleged irregularities.

At the same time, information has been sought from the central government about the expert committee formed for reforms in NTA. Apart from this, a consolidated report of maximum 10 pages has been sought from the petitioners demanding re-examination. The court said that everyone should submit their answers by 5 pm on Wednesday. The next hearing of the case will now be held on July 11.

NEET was held on May 5, 24 lakh students appeared for it

This year the NEET exam was held on 5 May. About 24 lakh candidates appeared for it at 4,750 examination centers in 571 cities, but this exam had already come under controversy.

After the paper leak and giving grace marks to 1563 students, many students had alleged rigging and irregularities. Protests took place in many cities regarding this. Opposition parties raised this issue in Parliament.

The government gave clarification. Meanwhile, the students knocked the doors of the state High Court as well as the Supreme Court.
