There is no change in CBSE books this year: The board said that schools will teach last year’s curriculum and textbooks only

CBSE Board has issued a notice informing that this year there is no change in the curriculum or syllabus of any class except class 3 and 6. All the schools have been instructed that the syllabus of the previous academic session i.e. (2023-24) will be taught this year as well.

The Board has issued a notice in this regard on X.

Earlier in March 2024, the board had directed all its affiliated schools to implement the new syllabus and books for classes 3 and 6. In the notification, the board had directed the schools to use NCERT books published till 2023.

CBSE had changed the curriculum for class 9 in May
CBSE had announced changes in the curriculum of Class 9 on 22 May. However, these changes will not be applicable in this academic session. According to CBSE’s secondary school curriculum, now in Class 9 itself, students will have to choose a sixth elective subject in addition to the 5 core subjects. There will be no option to change the subject chosen as elective in Class 9 in Class 10.

Actually, in class 10, students have the option of taking one elective subject in addition to 5 core subjects. If there are less marks in any language subject, then the score of that subject can be replaced by the score of the elective subject. This improves the overall result of the student.

Elective subject will have to be chosen in class 9
According to CBSE’s secondary school curriculum, in class 9, students will have to choose core subjects like Maths, Science, Social Science and two language subjects, besides a third language or skill based elective subject. In this way, students will have a total of 6 subjects in class 9.

Marks of core subjects can be replaced by skill subjects
If a student fails in any one of the subjects of Science, Maths or Social Science in Class 10 and passes in an elective subject, then the mark sheet of Class 10 will be prepared by replacing that core subject with skill or elective. The marks of both the subjects will not be changed but will be changed in a scientific manner.

In class 9, you will have to study 10 subjects, there will be exam for 6 subjects
Apart from 5 core and 1 elective subject in class 9, students will also have 3 compulsory subjects like Art Education, Work Experience and Health and Physical Education. In this way, students will have a total of 10 subjects in class 9. However, apart from core and elective subjects, there will be no board exam for the other three subjects. Assessment for these subjects will be done at the school level only.
