The initiative aims to benefit 40 lakh workers, promising a resurgence in regional development.

The Visakhapatnam Junction station redevelopment work is slated to begin soon, more than 10 months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone.

According to railway sources, while some work is being done, the proposed new station building is blocked by the Railway Board. On November 12, 2023, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of the new station building on the Gnanapuram side of Visakhapatnam railway station. According to The Hindu, the project cost is an estimated Rs 456 crore.

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat addressed at a press conference at the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) office on July 9 regarding the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone, which will include Visakhapatnam as its headquarters. As per the publication, he stated that the land granted by the previous government was unsuitable. The district now has a new collector and the land will be located shortly.

Sribharat added that he has communicated with Waltair Division officials about the railway station redevelopment project and that the work would begin shortly. According to reports, there was little development, with the exception of the building of pillars for multi-level parking on either side of the train station.

The Visakhapatnam MP also mentioned that the NDA government will restore the former glory of all departments in Andhra Pradesh. He praised the state administration for developing the new free sand supply strategy. The minister said that people had suffered greatly as a result of the sand shortage during the last five years. He also informed that the government’s new sand policy will benefit 40 lakh construction workers and reinvigorate the construction sector.
