The Pakistan Cricket Board has removed Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee, although its official announcement has not been made yet. Cricket website Cricinfo has claimed that Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have been sacked after Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup held in West Indies and America.
Razzaq was appointed to the selection committee for both the men’s and women’s teams a few weeks ago. Now he will not work as a selector for the women’s team either.
Razzaq is considered to be very close to PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. When Naqvi became the acting Chief Minister of Punjab, he appointed him as the Sports Minister in his cabinet. Wahab also accompanied him as the team manager during the T20 World Cup jointly hosted by the US and West Indies.
Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were included in the selection committee only four months ago.
Both were appointed only four months ago
Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were included in the selection committee four months ago. Pakistan Cricket Board had formed a 7-member selection committee four months ago and removed the post of Chief Selector. All seven members had equal voting rights. This 7-member committee had selected the team for the T20 World Cup.
Apart from Riaz and Razzaq, the members of the selection committee include head coach and captain, Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq and data analyst Bilal Afzal.
Now Chief Selector can be appointed in the Selection Committee
PCB may reintroduce the post of Chief Selector of the Selection Committee and may also reduce the number of members. In the last four years, PCB has appointed six Chief Selectors. These include Wahab, Haroon Rashid, Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Wasim and Misbah-ul-Haq.
