Boatmen of Varanasi have expressed their displeasure over not getting new boat licenses. Boatmen say that since last year our boat licenses are not being made by the Municipal Corporation. Regarding this, they have given a memorandum to the Mayor and demanded that the boat licenses be made again by the Municipal Corporation.

Sailors are angry over not making new license
Organization Minister Shambhu Sahni said that we people of the Majhi community have been dedicated and cooperative to the Municipal Corporation since the beginning. He said that when the forest department people were giving boat licenses, we people opposed the forest department. But since last year, our licenses are not being made in the name of plates. Organization Minister Shambhu Sahni said that all of us people of the boatman community demand that the process of making new number plates should be started as soon as possible. He said that our more than 250 boats which are running without licenses should be able to get licenses.
Single Counter-Maintained Sailors’ License
Pramod Manjhi, President of Maa Ganga Nishadraj Seva Nyas, demanded the Municipal Corporation administration to implement an online and transparent single counter system for issuing boat licenses. He said that he will not allow harassment of boatmen in the name of license. The first responsibility of the safety of tourists in the Ganga lies with the boatmen. The mayor took cognizance of the matter
Mayor Ashok Tiwari said that a group of boatmen had come to meet us. We have listened to everyone’s problems and have ordered the Municipal Commissioner to make the licenses of all the boatmen as per the rules. Soon the licenses of all the boatmen will be made.
