The court sentenced a lab technician of Bundelkhand University, a husband who murdered his wife for dowry seven years ago in Jhansi, to life imprisonment. A fine of Rs 13,000 has been imposed on him. If not paid, it will be recovered from the property of the accused. This is an important matter.

The murder happened after 2 years of marriage

Assistant District Government Advocate Tej Singh Gaur said that Dr. Arvind Kumar Dubey, a resident of Oraiyya, had lodged a report in Navabad police station, in which he had told that he had married his daughter Neelam on 12 June 2015 to Bundelkhand University lab technician Surmesh Mishra alias Devendra, a resident of Kasauli village of Mangalpur police station in Kanpur countryside. About thirteen lakh rupees were spent on the wedding. Despite this, the in-laws started harassing the daughter for dowry right after the wedding. They were demanding ten lakh rupees and a car. A panchayat was also held regarding this, in which the in-laws compromised by giving assurance of taking good care of the daughter. Despite this, a case was filed in the family court on behalf of the in-laws. After this, a panchayat was held again, in which son-in-law Surmesh and his family members accepted their mistake and withdrew the case.

After this, the son-in-law and daughter started living in the government accommodation located in the BU campus of Jhansi. The father told that on 17 July 2017, he received a call from BU employee Atul Khare. He told that Neelam had died under suspicious circumstances. However, no information was given about this by the son-in-law or his family. The father accused the deceased’s husband Suresh Mishra, father Santosh Kumar Mishra and mother-in-law Sushila of killing the daughter by electrocution for dowry. The police registered a case and presented the charge sheet in the court. After hearing the entire case, the court sentenced the accused Suresh Mishra to life imprisonment with hard labour. Father-in-law Santosh Kumar Mishra and mother-in-law Sushila Mishra were acquitted.
