David Warner played his last international match against India in the T20 World Cup.
David Warner will not be considered for the Australian squad for the 2025 ODI Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
Warner had said in a social media post that despite retiring from international cricket, he could play in the ODI Champions Trophy in Pakistan if Cricket Australia wants.
Australia’s national selector George Bailey said, “Our understanding is that David has retired and the way he has had a career in all three formats should be appreciated. Our strategy is that he will not be in Pakistan.”
Warner retired after the T20 World Cup
Warner announced his retirement from international cricket after the T20 World Cup. In January, he said that his career in this format was over after winning the ODI World Cup last year. Warner had already announced his retirement from Test cricket as well.
Warner’s contribution is very important
George Bailey said about Warner’s return that you can never tell when he is joking. He has had a great career, which is hard to celebrate. I think as time goes by, we will continue to reflect on his contribution to Australian cricket.
He is a legend and his legacy will continue to live on. As far as this team is concerned, there will be some new and emerging players here. This journey of change in all three formats is going to be exciting.
Warner was part of the Australian team that won the World Cup 3 times
Warner has been part of the Australian team that has won the World Cup 3 times, including the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup. Warner was also the Player of the Tournament in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
