In Varanasi, a young man who had come to attend the last rites of a relative who had died suddenly, drowned while bathing. He kept floating ahead of the ghat in the strong current and suddenly drowned in the Ganga. His family and relatives who were bathing with him kept searching for him and the water police also called him.

A relative of Golu Kumar, a resident of Chhapra in Bihar, died on Thursday due to illness. When the family arranged for the last rites to be performed at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Golu also reached the ghat.
After the pyre was set on fire and the last rites were completed, everyone went to Hanuman Ghat to take a bath. Golu Kumar also started bathing at the ghat. At night, he could not estimate the depth of the Ganges and he went inside. Golu knew how to swim but suddenly he lost control in the strong current and started drifting.
Seeing Golu Kumar drowning, the relatives who were bathing with him tried to save him but they could not swim in the strong current and by then Golu had drowned. After this, water police and divers were called in a hurry. The police team could not find the drowned youth even after hours of efforts. Divers are deployed along with water police in-charge Mithilesh Yadav and Assi outpost in-charge Rahul Maurya.
