CJI bench’s third hearing on NEET dispute today: Centre, NTA filed affidavits on July 11; Decision on re-examination may be taken

The third hearing on 38 petitions related to irregularities in NEET is to be held today in front of the CJI’s bench. A division bench of CJI Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra is hearing the case.
The bench had first heard the case on July 8. After this, the court had given time till July 10 to the four stakeholders related to NEET – NTA, Central Government, CBI and the petitioners demanding re-examination to file an affidavit.
The second hearing on NEET was held on July 11. After this, the court postponed the matter till July 18. The CJI’s bench had said that the affidavits of NTA and the Central Government have not reached everyone. Due to this, the date of hearing was extended.
In the first hearing, the court had accepted that the paper was leaked
In the first hearing of the case on July 8, the bench had said that it is clear that the paper has been leaked. A decision on re-examination can be taken only after knowing how widespread it is.
CBI submitted affidavit on NEET in Supreme Court late
In the NEET case, the Supreme Court had sought a report from all the stakeholders related to the exam by 5 pm on July 10.
CBI had submitted the affidavit in the court on July 11. The registry had said that after the delay in the stipulated time, discuss with the court about submitting the affidavit.
However, Justice JB Pardiwala of the bench said that he was aware of the submission of the CBI report.
The Supreme Court is hearing 38 petitions
38 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the irregularities in NEET-UG. Out of these, 34 petitions have been filed by students, teachers and coaching institutes, while 4 petitions have been filed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
A petition was filed to investigate the paper leak 8 days after the exam
NEET candidate Shivangi Mishra filed a petition in the Supreme Court on May 13 to investigate the paper leak. After this, NTA announced the result of the exam on June 4, 10 days before the scheduled date.
So far 45 arrests have been made from 7 states
There have been continuous protests against NTA across the country since June 4. The central government handed over the investigation of the NEET case to the CBI on June 22. So far, the investigation of the paper leak case has reached 6 states. So far 42 arrests have been made from 7 states. CBI has arrested a total of 13 people so far.
