Former US President Donald Trump will deliver his first speech in Milwaukee since surviving an assassination attempt.
Donald Trump met with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in Milwaukee, following an attempted assassination that has prompted calls for her resignation.
Former US President Donald Trump met with Kimberly Cheatle, the Director of the US Secret Service, on Tuesday (Wednesday in India) at his hotel in Milwaukee, according to a source who spoke with ABC News. The details of their discussion remain undisclosed.
This meeting comes in the wake of an attempted assassination against Trump that occurred last Saturday (Early Sunday morning in India) during a rally in Pennsylvania. The attack, which narrowly missed its target, has led to immense scrutiny of the Secret Service’s protective measures. In response, many Republicans and some of Trump’s allies are now calling for Cheatle’s resignation, criticising the agency’s failure to prevent the attack.
The nature of the conversation between Trump and Cheatle is not publicly known, but it is likely to have focused on the recent security breach and the subsequent concerns regarding the agency’s ability to safeguard the national leaders.
Meanwhile, Trump is currently in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he is set to deliver his closing speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night (Friday morning in India). His address will be attended by former First Lady Melania Trump, who is making a rare public appearance. The four-day event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has drawn tens of thousands of attendees as the party seeks to strengthen its appeal to voters ahead of the November general election.
What is the Republican National Convention (RNC)?
Every four years, each of the two major US parties holds a convention to formally nominate their candidate for President and gear up for the final campaign stretch. During the convention, delegates from each state pledge their support to the candidate of their choice. For Donald Trump, the convention was largely a formality, as he had already secured the nomination with 2,265 delegates won in the primaries. The Democratic National Convention will take place next month in Chicago.
