Sri Lanka announces team for Women’s Asia Cup: 8 teams are participating; India-Pakistan match tomorrow

Sri Lanka has handed over the captaincy of the team for the Women’s Asia Cup to Chamari Athapaththu.

Sri Lanka has announced its women’s team for the Asia Cup. This time the Asia Cup is to be played in Sri Lanka from July 19. The first match is to be played between Nepal and UAE. The second match will be played between India and Pakistan on the same day. Sri Lanka announced the team on Wednesday. It has handed over the command of its team to Chamari Athapathu.

Experienced trio Udeshika Prabodhani, Achini Kulsuriya and Anushka Sanjeewani have been included in Sri Lanka’s T20 squad. All three were rested in the recent series against West Indies. The pair of Rashmika Sevandi and Imesha Dulani have also been included in the team. At the same time, experienced spinner Oshadi Ranasinghe and wicketkeeper-batsman Kaushini Nuthyangana have also not got a place in the team. Left-arm spinner Shashini Gimhani is the youngest member, who will turn 16 later this year.

8 teams are participating in Women’s Asia Cup
The ninth season of the Women’s Asia Cup is starting from Friday in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. In the tournament, 8 teams will play 15 matches in 10 days. This time emerging teams like Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal and UAE have also got entry. This is Thailand’s fourth tournament. Whereas, Malaysia and Nepal have played twice each. This will be UAE’s second season.

The teams were divided into two groups
8 teams have been divided into two groups. Women’s Team India has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Nepal. Host Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand and Bangladesh have been placed in Group B.
Last time Thailand reached the semi-finals by defeating Pakistan
Thailand defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup last year and made it to the semi-finals. 20-year-old Thipach Puttawong will captain the team. Former Maharashtra Cricket Association player Nitish Salekar is the coach. The team is in Group B along with Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
