The havoc of floods in Gorakhpur does not seem to be stopping yet. People in the flood-hit areas have been facing troubles for the last 20 days. Due to the rains and then the water released from Nepal, the Rapti river is continuously flowing above the danger mark.

Due to which, people living in the Kachhar region are terrified of floods. Dozens of houses have been destroyed. At the same time, the cattle of many villagers also died. People have suffered a lot due to the floods. 55 villages situated on the banks of the river have been completely submerged. People living here are living by putting plastic sheets on the roofs.

More than 30 thousand people have been affected so far
They have to depend only on relief material to feed themselves. People have to use boats for essential works. So far, a population of more than 30 thousand has been affected by the floods. The villages surrounded by water have been cut off from the main roads. Therefore, the administration has deployed 100 boats for relief and rescue work. NDRF, SDRF as well as PAC have been deployed for monitoring.

The water level of Rapti came down
According to the Disaster Management Department, yesterday at 4 pm on Monday, there was a decrease in the water level of the Rapti river. The river was now flowing below the danger mark i.e. at 74.42 meters. But, due to the increased water level of Rapti, villages like Bhatpurwa, Kevtan, Koilikhas, Pidhani, Markadi, Khohiyapatti, Hinguhar, Lakhnauri, Lakhnaura, Mohan Pauhariya, Machhargaon, Subedarnagar Majha, Bihua alias Agalgauwa, Manjhariyan, Bargaon etc. are still completely submerged.

Relief operation going on rapidly in flood affected area
In this devastating situation, the local administration and voluntary organizations are trying to provide all possible help. Relief materials are being distributed in the temporary shelters built for the villagers. The government has also announced a relief package so that the affected people can be rehabilitated as soon as possible.

Ration kits are being distributed along with relief material to all flood victims in the flood affected area. At the same time, to deal with water-borne diseases after the flood, the medical team will go from village to village and examine everyone and provide medical kits.

Villagers suffered a lot
People have suffered a lot due to the floods. Many crops have been ruined due to waterlogging in the villages. People’s household goods and ration have been ruined due to waterlogging in the houses. At the same time, some people’s houses have also collapsed. If people are to be believed, a lot of damage has been done which can never be compensated.

This flood in Gorakhpur once again makes us realize the power of nature. But this tragedy has also strengthened the spirit of unity and cooperation among the people. Be it the administration or the common citizens, everyone is facing this disaster together and it is hoped that soon the area will return to normal.
