The Indian Olympic Association has announced their new principal sponsor BPCL who will take up the role for the next four years.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Tuesday named Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) as its official principal sponsor for four years, starting with the Paris Olympics till the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
The collaboration between BPCL, a Maharatna company, and IOA will also encompass the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Summer Youth Olympics, Winter Olympics, and Winter Youth Olympics.
As part of this collaboration, BPCL will launch series of campaigns designed to support the Indian contingent heading to Paris. These initiatives aim to inspire the nation, galvanize support for the athletes, and celebrate their relentless pursuit of excellence on the global stage.
“We thank BPCL for partnering with the Indian Olympic Association, as a Principal Partner for a four-year journey starting from Paris Olympics ’24 and for supporting and believing in the potential of Indian athletes,” said IOA President PT Usha in a release.
“This partnership signifies our shared commitment of nurturing sporting talent and cultivating role models for India.”
BPCL has some top athletes among its employees, including MM Somaya, a gold medallist in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, PV Sindhu, a silver and bronze winner at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics respectively.
Saina Nehwal, who is currently employed, won a bronze medal in badminton at the 2012 London Olympics. Additionally, five men’s hockey team players from the Tokyo Olympics bronze medal-winning side have also been BPCL employees.
“Consistent with BPCL’s philosophy of nurturing and encouraging our country’s sporting talent from their initial years and through their sporting careers, we have, over the years, taken on board, over 200 sportspersons across various disciplines,” said G Krishnakumar, Chairman and MD of BPCL.
“Our support serves to provide confidence to the sportspersons, acting as a springboard for their aspirations.
“We are extremely happy to be partnering Indian Olympic Association and it gives us immense pride to be associated with champions who epitomise peak performance and intense passion, dazzling the world with breathtaking achievements.”
