One of the most decorated Indian sportspersons of all time, PV Sindhu is aiming to create more history at the upcoming Paris Games. The shuttler’s career has coincided with India’s rise as a badminton superpower as she continues to lead the growth of the sport in India. While here career is littered with several accolades, the Olympic gold is still missing from her glittering collection and Paris presents her with another chance to correct the anomaly.
Sindhu is the first Indian to have won multiple individual Olympic medals and she would be aiming to add an unprecedented third (gold preferably) this time around.
Sindhu, a former world champion and top-ranked shuttler, has been reeling with injuries and a major dip in form for some time now. To address that, she first took a break to recharge her batteries and changed her coach a couple of times before teaming up with the legendary Prakash Padukone (mentor) in a bid to resurrect her Paris dreams. She was in Germany for a pre-Olympic training camp designed so to help her stay focused and get used to conditions.
Fully aware how the game has changed when she first started out, Sindhu knows the challenge will be stiffer than her previous outings at the quadrennial spectacle and the changes needed to continue excelling at this level.

Paris Olympics Qualification
The qualification for Paris Olympics (singles event) was determined by Race to Paris Ranking List published by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in April this year. Sindhu secured her place by finishing 12th in the list.
As per the qualification criteria, shuttlers in the top-16 of this race (at most two from each country) are given a spot an Olympics. They were judged on the performances starting from May 1, 2023 till April 28, 2024.
Recent Performances
Since winning her maiden CWG gold in 2022, Sindhu hasn’t won an individual tournament thanks to inconsistent form and injuries. A stress fracture even kept her out from the world championships in 2022. In 2023, she was part of India’s bronze winning team at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. The Spain Masters was her only final appearance of the year as she consistently made semi-finals and a host of first-round exits. 2024 Though began on a bright note as she won gold at the Badminton Asia Team Championships. She also finished runners-up at the Malaysian Masters 2024.
