Rameshwaram Mahadev temple located in Rajepur, about 12 km from Jaunpur city, is from ancient times. It is said that once there used to be only forest at this place. At that time, the villagers used to bring their animals to this place for grazing.

It is said that the Shivling present in this temple was found under the ground. About which Lord Shiva had given a dream to a person of the area. After which the temple was built here.

Establishment of a temple for the worship of the idol

Experts said that a couple from the ancestors of Hanuman Bairagi who lived in this village had a dream. Then they saw Lord Shiva in the dream. Lord Shiva told them in the dream that I am present at the same place. Get a temple established for the worship of the idol, the next day when they woke up, they told about the dream. After this, excavation was done at that place. During the excavation, they found a Shivling. After that Rameshwaram Mahadev temple was built there.

Crowd of devotees on Saavan and Mahashivratri

The description of this place is recorded in Ramcharit Manas written by Goswami Tulsidas ji. It is written in Manas that when Lord Shri Ram Chandra ji was returning to Ayodhya after killing Ravana in Lanka, he descended from Sai river and took bath in Gomti river. Then from here he reached Ayodhya on the fourth day. The quatrain of Manas says, Sai descended from Gomti and bathed, on the fourth day came to Awadhpur. Crowds of devotees gather on the occasion of Sawan and Mahashivratri. In which people from far away places apart from the area come. They worship Mahadev. Meanwhile, a huge crowd gathers here. Strict security arrangements are made.

On the full moon day of Kartik month of Hindi, a huge crowd gathers to visit the confluence of Sai and Gomti rivers. On that day, thousands of people visit Rameshwaram Mahadev. It is at this place that the Sai river merges with the Gomti river.

Continuous recitation of Ramcharit Manas for decades

The priest of Rameshwaram Mahadev temple told that devotees keep coming here every day. The number of people bathing in Sangam increases a lot during the month of Sawan and Kartik Purnima. The recitation of Ramcharit Manas has been going on continuously in the premises of this temple for decades. It goes on day and night. It is the grace of Bholenath that one does not know how the recitation of Manas is going on continuously.
