A 12-year-old student was swept away while crossing a drain during rains in Lalitpur on Wednesday. His body was found stuck in the bushes two kilometers away from the spot. The student’s death has caused an uproar among the family members. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police and other officials reached the spot.

The family members said that he had gone to school by taxi at 6:45 in the morning, but the school was closed. After which the taxi driver left the son at some distance from the house. From where he was returning home on foot. He was swept away in the drain on the way. When the child did not reach home till 1 pm, they started searching for him. After which, when the CCTV cameras installed nearby were checked, it was found that the child had drowned in the drain.

Yash Niranjan, son of Dr. Damodar Niranjan, resident of Mohalla Azadpura Rajput Colony of Kotwali Sadar, was a student of class 6 in SDS school. He went to school by taxi to study on Wednesday at 6:45 am. But due to rain, the school was closed. Due to which the taxi driver left the child at a distance of two hundred meters from the house. When the child was coming home from there, during this time the road near the house was in spate due to rain. To cross that drain, he was climbing the ramp built there by holding the wall of a house. Then his foot slipped and he was swept away in the drain. While floating, he got stuck in the bushes about two kilometers away.

When the student did not reach home till 1 pm, his family reached the school, where they were told that the school had closed in the morning. The family immediately approached the taxi driver, who told them that he had dropped the student in the morning. After which the family checked the CCTV cameras installed on the way and saw that their son fell into the drain at 7:57 pm. After this, the family informed the police and the administration.
The student died by drowning in this drain.
He was the elder of two brothers
The administration and the municipality launched a rescue operation. The children kept searching in the drain. The body was found stuck near the culvert of the drain located at Talabpura, about two kilometers away. The child was immediately taken to the hospital. Where the doctors declared him dead. The police got the postmortem done and handed over the body to the family at 8 pm. The family said that the student was the eldest of two brothers.
